Finance and Government Business Minister Jane Hutt has welcomed the news that a Welsh Government Opportunitiescompany has been awarded €420,000 from the European Commission to bring its expertise to an international project aimed at developing technology that could change the way cancer is treated.

The project aims to make a technological breakthrough by developing software to improve the performance and safety of cellular cancer therapies, and make Europe a global leader in the commercialisation of the technology.

The funding for the project comes from the European Commission’s largest research and innovation programme, Horizon 2020 – worth around £65 billion across EU Member States, which aims to make breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts in science and innovation.

Finance Minister, Jane Hutt, said:

“The Welsh Government is committed to increasing participation in the Horizon 2020 programme and has been providing support to organisations and businesses in Wales, including TrakCel, to access this funding, so I’m delighted that the company will benefit so much from participation in this important programme.
