Metro Exhibitions open to public

A striking 3D ‘fly through’ animation is at the heart of a new exhibition illustrating the Welsh Government’s transformative Metro transport project.train_1103473sml

Over the coming weeks, travellers will get the chance to learn more about the project through new interactive maps at various stations on the network.

The exhibitions are the latest stage of the Welsh Government’s drive to raise awareness of the Metro scheme, which has the potential to transform the economy of the Cardiff Capital Region.

The Metro vision is for a new, fully integrated transport network, delivering a step change of improvement in public transport through a cutting edge rapid transit system.

The higher frequency of trains will offer the passenger a faster, more comfortable ‘turn up and go’ experience than current services, while integration means a single ticket will deliver a seamless travelling experience across different modes of transport.

The Metro Public Exhibitions will be at the following locations in the coming weeks:

Pontypridd Station: 24th & 25th Feb, 07:00-13:00
Bridgend Station: 24th & 25th Feb, 07:00-13:00
The Works, Ebbw Vale: 1st & 2nd March, 09:00 – 17:00
Cardiff Central Station: 1st – 3rd March, 07:00-15:00
Newport, Friars Walk Shopping Centre: 8th – 10th March, 09:00-17:00

First Minister Carwyn Jones said:

“I’m delighted that the Welsh public are getting a further opportunity to learn more about the Metro project. These exhibitions, in strategic locations across the network, are a great chance to find out more about just how transformative Metro will become.

“As the momentum around the project builds, we need to maximise public awareness of what it can deliver for jobs and growth into the future.

“The 3D animation and interactive Metro map really bring home what a significant scheme this is. A huge amount of hard work is currently underway to bring it to reality, so that passengers see the benefits as soon as possible.”
