CBI President Paul Drechsler called on the Government to keep supporting businesses in the West Midlands to grow and create prosperity, in a speech to its CBI Annual Dinner on 15 June.CBI

He said that promoting regional growth and helping firms connect to regional and local decision makers will be vital to help kick-start the Midlands Engine.

CBI President, Paul Drechsler, said:

“The Midlands Engine must have a clear strategy for growth, to make the most of the region’s strengths – its incredible manufacturing base, its small and medium-sized businesses, its world-class universities and high-quality apprenticeship programmes.

“Revitalised Industrial Strategies for each sector and a radical rethink of the design of the Apprenticeship levy are critical elements of this and we will continue to hold the Government’s feet to the fire.

“Tonight’s dinner will give CBI members a fantastic opportunity to discuss important topics affecting businesses and jobs across the region.”

CBI West Midlands Director, Richard Butler, said:

“This event always proves a high point in the West Midlands business calendar, attracting many of the region’s leading business people. It provides the perfect opportunity to showcase the exceptional talent that the region has to offer and discuss the key issues that will deliver jobs and growth here in the West Midlands.

“My focus remains that the views of businesses in the West Midlands are heard loud and clear in Westminster and around the world.”
