£11m set to be invested in Redbridge Borough’s highways

More than £11m of improvements to Redbridge Borough’s highways network are set to be discussed at Service Committee.Government Opportunities

The work, which includes £2.5m of resurfacing of the Borough’s roads, and £2.3m on complementary measures for the new Elizabeth Line, will be detailed in a report at Neighbourhoods Service Committee on Wednesday 6 April.

Just over £5m of the improvement is set to be directly funded by the Council to improve the highways network and ensure that Redbridge remains a safe place to travel, whether you are a motorist, cyclist or pedestrian.

The work includes:

  • £2.5m for resurfacing pavements and roads
  • £1.3m for patching roads and pavements where full resurfacing is not necessary
  • £330,000 for replacement of some of the Borough’s older lamp columns and lanterns which are not energy efficient
  • £300,000 for projects to make the Borough’s roads safer and flow more freely

In addition there is also funding for projects from Transport for London which totals more than £6m.

This includes:

  • £2.3m improvements in the vicinity of the Borough’s future Elizabeth Line Stations, namely Ilford, Goodmayes, Seven Kings and Chadwell Heath
  • Quietway Route between Hainault and Wanstead – £524,000 to create a cycling Quietway, high quality backstreet route to encourage people to cycle more, this is part of a London-wide initiative
