System Administrator

The role of Systems administrator in the IT Operations, network team, will be responsible for ensuring the health and future of the network and infrastructure hosted both internally and externally.

There will be a level of ownership to provide solutions to shape the future of the network.

The roles key focus is on back end infrastructure which includes Linux servers, cloud network administration, network infrastructure and network security.

Key areas of responsibility will include (but not exhaustive):

Linux Server Architecture and Administration:

  • Maintenance & management of Linux environment
  • Maintenance of Java web applications
  • Administration of PHP & WordPress instances
  • Administration of Apache & Tomcat

Microsoft Azure and AWS Cloud infrastructure administration:

  • Work with development team to setup, configure and maintain cloud-based infrastructure as necessary


  • Monitor network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability
  • Manage performance tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of the network resources


  • Plan, co-ordinate and implement network security measures
  • Assists in maintaining the operating system and security software utilised on the network, including the addition of new users to the network and establishment of rights and privileges

Network Infrastructure:

  • Install, configure, and support LAN, WAN, and Internet facing systems
  • Ensuring availability of all relevant systems, through implementation and management of maintenance, monitoring and change control strategies
  • Manage virtual environment and SAN/NAS storage,
  • Maintain network and server (physical and virtual) hardware and software

Infrastructure Services

  • Install and support database instances
  • Install and maintain DNS servers
  • Work with Windows Admins to ensure availability of AD, DC, DHCP, DFS and other windows server roles.

Disaster Recovery

  • Perform routine back-ups and archival of files stored on the network to assist with disaster recovery
  • Shape, maintain and ensure availability of an offsite disaster recovery service
  • Vendor Interaction:
  • Work with vendors who support elements of the infrastructure to maximise service and solve problems
  • Out of Hours support
  • Work on a rota basis to provide 24×7 out of hours support to application services and clients infrastructure as needed


  • Provide technical support to computer operations and programming staff
  • Analyse user support statistics and other data to recommend appropriate measures
  • Release management duties on live environments
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
