Mr Swire will meet senior Indian counterparts in Delhi to build on the successful visit of Indian Prime Minister to the UK in November 2015, where a series of agreements about cooperation on key foreign and security issues were made.

He will also meet prominent Indian business people and representatives from the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to encourage further trade and investment. India is already the third largest investor in the UK, and the UK is the largest G20 investor in India.

Minister of State for Asia, Hugo Swire, said:

“Prime Minister Modi’s historic visit to the United Kingdom set a new level of ambition for our relationship with India. It deepened our existing bonds in security and defence, business, innovation, education and culture.

“As modern, diverse and dynamic democracies, the UK and India have a natural affinity and enjoy a genuinely strategic partnership that we want to take to the next level. Together, we will play an indispensable role in tackling the great challenges of our time, from terrorism and cyber threats to inclusive growth for all and sustainable energy.”
