Glasgow to host event outlining community benefits and opportunities of Glasgow and Clyde Valley City Deal

The £1.13billion Glasgow and Clyde Valley City Deal will deliver tens of thousands of jobs over the next few decades, but also a great deal of community benefit, and a series of free events will give businesses involved or interested in City Deal contracts more detail.

The next of these will take place on 25 January at Glasgow City Chambers in an event hosted by Glasgow City Council and the Supplier Development Programme of this City Deal. The opportunities available will be discussed, as well as the training and support on offer to help SMEs, contractors and suppliers get ‘tender-ready’. Government Opportunities

The City Deal will bring these tens of thousands of jobs to Glasgow and the Clyde Valley over the next few decades through 20 major infrastructure projects; driving innovation and growth through the support of key sectors such as life sciences; and addressing challenges in the region’s labour market.

The partner local authorities in this City Deal have developed a Community Benefits strategy with the aim of maximising the social, environmental and economic benefit of the contracts awarded to deliver the 20 projects.

Both the UK and Scottish Governments will give the Glasgow and Clyde Valley local authorities £500million in grant funding for the City Deal, and the local authorities will borrow a further £130million to use for capital investment.

The City Deal is expected to give Glasgow and Clyde Valley a permanent uplift in its GVA of £2.2billion per annum (4.4%); generate 15,000 construction jobs during the construction period and 28,000 permanent additional jobs once construction is complete; and will unlock £3.3billion of private sector investment.

Councillor Frank McAveety, Leader of Glasgow City Council, said:

“This City Deal is a fantastic opportunity for the businesses, organisations and people of the area, and we are determined to ensure that as many people as possible benefit. These events will explain our plans around community benefit, and I look forward to the event in Glasgow City Chambers on 25 January.”

Organisations interested in attending the event on 25 January should register here.
