Why Attend?
Leeds is a city that has reinvented itself in the drive to replace declining industries with new opportunities from other sectors. It seems appropriate, therefore, that we in SOPO should choose this location for our Annual Conference and Exhibition as we prepare to address the needs of the next generation of procurement activity. We now know the size of the challenge that we had begun to contemplate this time last year. It is big and it is daunting. We have already taken significant steps to improve procurement and its partnering activities as we increase the contribution we make to meeting the objectives and vision of our respective organisations in the delivery of better value public services.
However, we cannot rest on our laurels. We need to take another leaf out of the Leeds book. Despite the obvious progress Leeds has made, the city is now riding another wave of improvement and investment, notably the new Trinity Leeds and Leeds Arena developments which will add considerably to the already significant retail, leisure and theatre facilities the city has to offer. We need to do the same – looking for additional ideas and adopting best practice to take procurement into the next dimension using the next generation of procurement tools.
We also need to embrace those who will work with us to achieve our aims – colleagues, central government, suppliers (both in the private and third sectors) and the community which we serve. It is essential that we have common goals and are committed to achieving them through endeavour, professionalism and an innovative approach to securing success.
The SOPO Annual Conference will once again be the highlight of the local government procurement calendar, addressing the main issues affecting the profession as well as providing valuable networking and learning opportunities.
Attending the Conference will enable you to:
- Absorb new ideas
- Discuss best practice
- Network with suppliers
- Network with colleagues and some of the leading thinkers and influencers in public procurement policy
- Take the latest thinking and valuable new connections back to your organisation
Who should attend?
The SOPO Annual Conference is open not only to procurement officers but also to commissioners, contract managers, policy officers and technical officers as well as private and third sector suppliers.
