The
MoD currently has around 32,000 suppliers. Does that include
your company? Could you be making more of MoD contract opportunities?
WHY
SELL TO THE MoD?
It's
a fact that the MoD purchases virtually every conceivable
service and product – including those of your company.
In addition to state-of-the-art equipment, our defence personnel
also need clothing; their homes need furnishing; their windows
need cleaning and their bins need emptying; and they require
sports facilities for their leisure time. The MoD's medical,
dental, fire and police services need equipment, its vehicles
need fuel and spare parts and its bands need musical instruments.
The list is almost endless.
SUB-CONTRACTOR
OPPORTUNITIES
There
are significant sub-contractor opportunities created as a
result of the many new headquarters contracts awarded annually,
involving a huge variety of goods and services. Increasingly,
this will be the main way for smaller companies to become
involved in the defence market as part of the supply chain.
The MoD will seek the optimum value-for-money balance between
opportunities for direct supply and its aim of reducing its
supplier base. There will be broadly the same value of opportunities
to meet defence requirements but increasingly these may be
through indirect relationships as sub-contractors to IPTs.
The MoD's objective is to obtain the best long-term value
for money in its contracts and it has around 1800 buyers committed
to purchasing high-quality goods and services at the most
economical prices and on the best value-for-money terms.
MORE
EFFECTIVE CONTRACTING
Competition is still seen as the best means of delivering
value for money for the defence budget, since it encourages
innovation, flexibility, efficient use of resources and the
development of skills and knowledge. Competition is not just
limited to the Prime Contracting level – it is equally
important at sub-contract levels where there are great opportunities
for the SME community to apply innovative commercial techniques
and realise value-for-money gains within the supply chain.
This
event will inform delegates of the many ongoing changes within
MoD procurement and how organisations can access the vast
array of opportunities that are available.
