The criteria listed below are indicative of what the GO Awards judging panel will be seeking in each category.
1. GO Lifetime Achievement Award – One winner
Open to: All individuals who have had an extensive career within public procurement in the UK public sector
Criteria:
Can demonstrate exceptional achievements which have had a fundamental impact on public procurement – both within their own organisation and beyond to the wider procurement community
– Have been at the forefront of strategic change within public procurement
– Have raised public procurement’s profile through positive action
– Have set a positive example for others to follow
Other:
Can be entered by, or on behalf of, an individual.
Nominations also submitted by the GO Editorial Advisory Team.
2. GO Individual Excellence Award - One winner
Open to: All individuals working in a procurement function within the UK public sector
Criteria:
– Have consistently exceeded expectations in their role
– Have helped create and/or deliver significant savings or efficiency gains on behalf of their organisation
– Have demonstrated an original, innovative approach to procurement issues which satisfies the demands of current legislation and best practice
– Have helped to cultivate partnering and collaboration in public procurement (either within or outwith their own organisation)
– Have committed to developing their own skills and experience
– Have contributed to the benefit of the wider community through their actions
– Have demonstrated outstanding ability to lead a team or project
– Have set a positive example for others to follow
Other:
Can be entered by, or on behalf of, an individual
An individual entering this category should have the endorsement of their immediate manager or another appropriate colleague within their organisation.
3. GO Team Excellence Award - One winner, up to two highly commended

to: A group of individuals who work as a team (either within one
organisation or across a number of organisations), or who have been responsible
for a specific procurement project within the UK public sector
Criteria:
– Have worked as a team to deliver measurable benefits in their procurement activities
– Have demonstrated an original, innovative approach to procurement issues which satisfies the demands of current legislation and best practice
– Have collaborated with other teams or organisations in order to meet their objectives
– Have delivered more as a result of team-working than could have been achieved individually
4. GO Sustainable Procurement Award - One winner, up to two highly commended
Open to: All UK public sector organisations
Criteria:
– Have demonstrated an original, innovative approach to procurement issues which satisfies the demands of current legislation and best practice
– Have delivered quantifiable and sustainable environmental, social or community benefit as a result of their procurement activities
– Have recognised the needs of individuals, the local community or the environment within their procurement activities
– Have demonstrated a long-term approach to procurement activities
– Have involved a broad range of stakeholders within their procurement process – eg local communities, interest groups, suppliers, third sector

Criteria:
– Can demonstrate a track record of collaboration which has delivered more benefit than would have been achieved by working independently
– Can provide evidence of a partnership approach to procurement
– Can demonstrate innovative thinking
– Can demonstrate measurable benefits as a direct result of a collaborative approach to procurement

6. GO
Award for Improved Delivery Through Greater Third Sector Involvement
One winner, jointly awarded to the service provider and public
sector client/s - up to two highly commended

to: Private sector or third sector/voluntary organisations of all
sizes which have delivered a contract requirement in partnership with the
public sector.
Criteria:
– Have made an effective and tangible contribution to improved public service delivery through greater involvement of the third sector in shaping, designing or calling to account.
– Have
applied a minimum of one of the eight principles of good commissioning and
been consistent with the principles of good commissioning and Compact Code
of Funding and Procurement good practice

– Have delivered beneficial outcome(s) to society or a specific community, particularly with those considered hard to reach
– Have demonstrated innovative thinking and/or a fresh approach to involvement of the third sector in public service delivery
– Have set a positive example for other public sector and/or third sector organisations to follow.
7. GO Best Service Award - One winner, one highly commended

to: Private sector or third sector/voluntary organisations of all
sizes which have delivered a contract requirement in partnership with the
public sector
Criteria:
Have demonstrated a high level of collaboration and/or partnership with the buyer
Have delivered a service which exceeds the expectations of the buyer and end-users
Have added value by adopting an innovative or creative approach to addressing the requirements of the contract
Other:
Endorsement of the buyer (public sector) is required for entries in this category as the Award recognises the achievements of all parties to the contract
8. GO Young Procurement Professional Award - One winner, one highly commended
Open to: All UK public sector procurement staff under the age of 30 at 5 June 2008
Criteria:
Can demonstrate that during their public procurement career to date they have:
- Shown a commitment to establishing a career within public procuremen
- Delivered results beyond expectations
- Demonstrated awareness and understanding of existing and new public procurement initiatives
- Developed their
own skills/knowledge either through formal learning or
networking/collaboration

Can be entered by, or on behalf of, an individual
An individual entering this category should have the endorsement of their immediate manager or another appropriate colleague within their organisation

GO Best Small Supplier Innovation Award
One
winner, jointly awarded to the service provider and public sector client/s
- up to two highly commended.

to: Small businesses (defined as having fewer than 50 employees and/or
a turnover of under £5 million) which have a current contract with a
UK public sector organisation. The category is open to both existing and new
suppliers to the public sector, and reflects the important role small businesses
can play in delivering innovative solutions
Criteria:
– Have added value by adopting an innovative or creative approach to addressing the requirements of the contract and its delivery
– Have demonstrated to a public sector organisation measurable benefits of working with a small business
– Have demonstrated a high level of collaboration and/or partnership with the buyer
– Have delivered a service which meets or exceeds the expectations of the buyer and end users
Other:
Endorsement of the buyer (public sector) is required for entries in this category as the Award recognises the achievements of all parties to the contract
