SPEAKER – Mark Lynas
Author
of High Tide: News from a Warming World
|
Since
going freelance in 2000 to work full-time on climate
change, Mark has written three books and many articles
in the UK and international media. His first publication,
High Tide: News from a Warming World, details
his exploration of the dramatic impacts of climate change
around the world. His second, The Collins Gem Carbon
Calculator, shows how people can calculate –
and reduce – their carbon footprints. His latest
book, Six Degrees: Our Future on a Hotter Planet,
outlines – degree by degree – what will
likely happen to different places this century as global
warming accelerates. Mark’s journalism work has
included regular contributions to The Guardian,
The Independent and other newspapers. He also
contributes to television and radio discussions on climate
change, and is a well-known lecturer on the subject. |

Jonathan
Ibikunle
Head
of Design, Partnerships for Schools |
Jonathan
joined Partnerships for Schools in February 2006,
supporting local authorities in the Building Schools
for the Future (BSF) programme in achieving design
quality. He also has responsibility for disseminating
best practice and sustainability. During his ten
years with the Architects and Building Branch of
the former Department for Education and Employment,
he worked and advised on a range of school projects
and design publications, including being Principal
Architect for the City Learning Centres programme
and producing its design guide. Prior to joining
Partnerships for Schools, Jonathan was seconded
to the DfES to head up the Design Advisory Team
to the Academies programme. He serves on the Royal
Institute of British Architects Client Design Advisers
Assessment Panel, and sits as an observer on the
Board of the British Council for Schools Environments. |

Alan
Knight
Commissioner
on Sustainable Consumption,
Sustainable Development Commission
|
Alan
is the Commissioner on Sustainable Consumption for
the Sustainable Development Commission and has 17
years’ experience of understanding the opportunities
CSR and sustainable development provide to global
retail. He is also the founder of Single Planet Living
Ltd, a company that offers advice on sustainable development.
Alan chairs Defra's Food Industry Ethical Trading
Champions Group and BERR's Retail Innovation and Sustainability
Group. He is a fellow of WWF UK and visiting professor
at Southampton University, as well as the political
editor of Organic Life magazine and director of the
Forest Stewardship Council. He was awarded an OBE
in 1998 for services to environmental audit in business
and in 2005 received a life-long award from the US-based
Rainforest Alliance for his contribution to finding
solutions to rainforest destruction caused by the
timber industry. |

Martin MCIPS

Will
is a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing
and Supply. He started his career in procurement
in the NHS in 1982 and moved into the power industry
in 1990, joining National Power and later Eastern
Merchant Generation. He joined the Environment Agency
procurement team in 1996 and has progressively been
involved in the development and application of sustainable
procurement tools and techniques throughout his
career, while helping develop and deploy the Environment
Agency’s sustainable procurement strategy.
He leads on the Agency’s sustainable procurement
construction activity. |

Dr
David Moon
Programme
Manager – Construction Procurement, WRAP
|
Dr
Moon is Programme Manager for Construction Procurement
at WRAP. His work encourages construction clients,
policy makers, planners and developers to set
requirements for waste minimisation, recycling
and the use of recovered materials, providing
practical support for implementing such requirements.
Formerly a materials scientist, he has managed
various large projects and programmes. Before
joining WRAP, he was based at the Department of
Trade and Industry, managing a Government-Industry
task force which looked at the competitiveness
of the UK's environment industry. |

Barbara
Morton
Director,
Action Sustainability |
Barbara
has worked in the field of sustainable procurement
for over 15 years, beginning in the NHS where
she worked in procurement and supply chain management.
She established the Strategic Supply Chain Group,
which is supported and facilited by Action Sustainability,
in 2003 and was its first project manager. Between
2003 and 2005, Barbara was seconded to DTI/Defra
Environmental Innovations Unit, where she was
responsible for a project aimed at promoting
innovation in the environmental industries though
public procurement. She is the founder and co-ordinator
of the Sustainable Supply Chain Forum –
a network of practitioners in procurement and
supply chain management, sustainable development
and corporate responsibility. Barbara has worked
with companies in a wide variety of sectors,
providing guidance on the integration of sustainability
criteria into procurement and supply chain management
processes. In the public sector she has worked
with the Environment Agency, NHS Purchasing
and Supply Agency and many local authorities.
Barbara is currently on secondment to the Procurement
and Contracts Division, Defra, and was Project
Manager to the business-led Sustainable Procurement
Task Force. |

Tom
is the Director of Public Sector and Business
Development for Office Depot, the world’s
leading supplier of office products.
Tom’s experience spans over 23 years,
15 of which have been dedicated to developing
and managing contracts within the public
sector. Office Depot’s public sector
division is split into four individual teams:
education, health and central and local
government. Sustainable procurement has
been the number one topic across the sector
now for many years. Under Tom’s leadership,
Office Depot has led the market in providing
initiatives which meet the environmental
objectives within all areas of the public
sector. Tom has recently extended his responsibilities
to include Director of Business Development.
The prime role of Office Depot’s Business
Development division is to bring new products
and services to market which enhance the
company’s proposition and deliver
solutions to enable its customers to achieve
their individual business and department
objectives. |

Manager for the Mayor of London's
Green Procurement Code
|
Graham
is the Programme Manager for the Mayor of
London's Green Procurement Code, a free support
service for London-based organisations committed
to reducing their environmental impact through
responsible purchasing. The programme is supported
by £3 million from the London Development
Agency and is delivered by London Remade.
For the last two years Graham has managed
the delivery of the services of the Green
Procurement Code and the launch of an expanded
service, ensuring that London Remade delivers
a high level of business support to organisations
signed up to the Code. He is also responsible
for producing the annual progress review to
measure the success of Green Procurement Code
members in helping to make London a sustainable
city. Graham has 17 years’ business
experience as a senior manager in international
business in the publishing industry and as
a business development consultant in the not-for-profit
sector. |

Director, Department for Work and Pensions |
David
has specialised in procurement and commercial
matters in the public sector for nearly
20 years. Before moving to DWP, he was Head
of Procurement for the Inland Revenue and
has previously held commercial posts in
the Home Office and HM Treasury (Central
Unit on Procurement). David is a well known
and respected speaker on commercial strategy,
delivery,
e-commerce and outsourcing and
acted as Commercial Adviser to the e-Envoy
on the ‘Government Gateway’,
to the European Institute for Public Affairs
(EIPA), Royal Institute for Public Affairs
(RIPA) and BiP on procurement matters. David
has a close working association with the
Office of Government Commerce (OGC). He
is a member of the Chief Executives’
Advisory Group (CEAG), the Government Procurement
Service Management Board, and various other
interdepartmental committees. David is also
a member of CIPS’s Board of Management. |

David
heads a specialist team in PASA which
is responsible for sustainable procurement
policy and guidance for the NHS in
England. He is currently involved
in a range of projects which focus
on sustainable development in medical
technologies, ethical sourcing, pharmaceutical
supply and training. David was heavily
involved in the development of the
Sustainable Procurement Action Plan
for the health care sector, and is
a key respondent on sustainable procurement
issues for the Department of Health. David
joined NHS PASA in April 2006 and prior
to this worked as a specialist environment
and sustainable development consultant
for six years, supporting a range of
major public and private sector clients. |
