Peter Ellingworth Chief Executive, Association of British Healthcare Industries
Peter spent 28 years in sales, marketing and general management before being appointed Chief Executive of ABHI in October 2008 after spending over 12 months as Association Chairman. As Chief Executive he represents the views of ABHI members to Department of Health associated bodies, the Government, Brussels and beyond. He is focused on making the UK a more fertile environment for innovative technologies to be rapidly adopted and an enabling innovation for the benefit of patients and efficient, effective healthcare. Peter has been an active participant in ABHI activities for a number of years as well as being involved with SDMA, BHTA and the Drug Tariff Forum and chairing the AdvaMed UK Working Group.
Peter Mount – Chair, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trustt
Peter is chairman of Central Manchester University Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust where he has overseen the merger of two Trusts and the rebuild of both the Children's Hospitals as well as St Mary's, Manchester Royal Infirmary, and the Royal Eye Hospital.
He was previously chairman of Salford Royal Hospitals for 8 years, served for 4 years on the Board of the DfES Sector Skills Development Agency and was elected Chairman of the NHS Confederation, a position he held from 2003 to 2007. Peter served on the Audit Committee of the Department of Health for 5 years and received the CBE in the 2007 New Year’s Honours list.
Earlier in his career Peter worked in various roles for Rolls Royce, Price Waterhouse, Chloride Batteries and Thorn EMI Group.
John Parkes, Chief Executive, NHS Northamptonshire
John is Chief Executive of NHS Northamptonshire where he is responsible for commissioning services to meet the needs of the county's 650,000 residents. John is committed to ensuring the development of a strong strategic focus to deal with the estimated population growth in the county of 50% over the next 20 years.
John joined Northamptonshire Teaching PCT (now NHS Northamptonshire) in October 2006 and, together with colleagues and partners, successfully reduced the PCT's inherited deficit from £45m to zero.
John is a member of the national Independent Reconfiguration Panel which provides advice to the Secretary of State for Health on disputed or controversial service reconfigurations within the NHS.
Jackie Potter - Chief Executive, Corridor Manchester
Corridor Manchester, the first partnership of its kind in the UK, is an ambitious project to redevelop the Oxford Road area of Manchester. It brings together Manchester City Council, the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation. Corridor Manchester aims to increase the number of high value jobs, improve public realm, retail offer and transport infrastructure; attract innovative and knowledge to the area by providing excellent facilities and space; engage local residents and develop the strong cultural offering.
A chartered surveyor by profession, Jackie joined Corridor Manchester in 2008 following three years with Blackpool Council. Her responsibilities included leading the Council's contribution to the physical and economic regeneration of the town, working closely with ReBlackpool URC, before that she worked at Government Office North West as Director of Spatial Development.
Helena Fuller, Chief Operating Officer,Yorkshire and Humber Commercial Procurement Collaborative.
Helena was appointed Chief Operating Officer of the Yorkshire and Humber Commercial Procurement Collaborative in June 2007. She has enjoyed a varied career in and outside the NHS. Before her appointment as Yorkshire and Humber’s collaborative Chief Operating Officer, she was Commercial Director of the South Yorkshire Supply Management Confederation. Helena has worked at national level (PASA), playing a leading role in developing and establishing supply management confederations throughout the NHS in England. Prior to joining NHS PASA, she was Head of Procurement for Addenbrooke’s NHS Trust. Before joining the NHS in 1999, she held different commercial and engineering roles within telecoms and first-tier supply organisations for the automotive and aerospace industries. Helena is currently Chair of the Health Care Association.
Jim Miller, Strategic Sourcing Director, National Procurement
Jim joined NHS Scotland in 2006 having previously held a number of positions in both the private and public sectors. He has held a number of senior procurement roles, ranging from facilities management as Director of Procurement with Alfred McAlpine Business Services to BAA, where he was Head of Supply Chain. . A member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, he is passionate about the role procurement has to offer in the development of both business success and public sector service improvements. As a Director in one of the ‘Centres of Expertise’ he has had direct involvement in the progress of procurement reform in Scotland.
Jonathan Wedgebury, Chief Executive, Healthcare Purchasing Consortium
Jonathan is Chief Executive of the Healthcare Purchasing Consortium (HPC), of which he was the founder in 2001. The HPC now represents over 60 organisations and has a purchasing spend of over £2.5 billion. In 2008 the HPC received Highly Commended status in the Collaborative Procurement award category at the annual National Government Opportunities (GO) Excellence in Public Procurement Awards.
Prior to his work with HPC, Jonathan was Commercial Director of West Midlands South SHA, Purchasing Director at Heart of England Foundation Trust and Commercial Director of West Midlands Regional Health Authority. Jonathan is also a member of the Commercial Board of the London SHA.
Jonathan is currently supporting the DH on a part-time secondment for the new Commercial Strategy for the DH and NHS; he is leading the CPH Work Stream.
Gary Belfield, Acting Director General for Commissioning and System Management,
Department of Health
Gary is the Acting Director General for Commissioning and System Management at the Department of Health (DH). He has over 25 years’ experience in the NHS and DH, most recently as Director of Commissioning at the DH. Gary’s previous roles included Head of Primary Care at the DH, Chief Executive of an NHS Trust and Deputy Chief Executive of a Community and Mental Health Trust.
In his six years at the DH Gary has led the teams which have created the models and policy for Practice Based Commissioning and long term conditions. As Director of Commissioning, Gary was the architect of World Class Commissioning (WCC), seen as a leading-edge development.The significant ‘co-production’ with the NHS to create WCC has set the standard for future policy development between DH and the NHS.
John Warrington , Deputy Director, Procurement Policy and Research, Procurement, Investment and Commercial Division,
Department of Health
John joined the NHS in 1984 to work in the West Midlands Regional Supplies Department. He worked in a number of purchasing roles in the West Midlands, Oxford and North West Regional Health Authorities before joining the National Purchasing Unit of the NHS Supplies Authority in 1992. He was National Portfolio Manager for the Rehabilitation Section before becoming Head of Strategic Supply Development and Innovation in the Authority’s Strategy Directorate.
John was made Head of Research and Innovation for NHS PASA on its formation in April 2000, and was appointed a Director in January 2004, with responsibility for research and innovation and national procurement for food, domestics and textiles categories. After a spell as Director – Policy and Innovation, he recently transferred to the Department of Health’s Procurement, Investment and Commercial Division to take up a new role as Deputy Director, Procurement Policy and Research.
