Torpedoes Integrated Project Team (Joint)

The Torpedoes IPT is part of the DG Weapons Cluster within the Defence Equipment and Support Organisation and provides a through life torpedo capability to the RN and RAF. Our Mission is ‘to provide world class, capable and cost effective torpedoes through life’.

Capital Ships Directorate (Sea)

Formed in April 2008 through the merger of the Future Carrier and Major Warships IPTs, the Capital Ships Directorate exists to put the Royal Navy’s capital warships to sea and keep them there fit to fight. Operating as a truly ‘through-life’ team, the Directorate has responsibility for in-service support of existing platforms including CVS, LPD, LPH and T42 classes and bringing into service new platforms including the Future Aircraft Carrier (CVF) and the Fast Landing Craft (FLC).

Unmanned Air Systems Project Team

Unmanned Air Systems Project Team (UAS PT) is responsible for UAS acquisition, policy and standards, safety and engineering discipline, future research and development and providing guidance to industry on all matters UAS from within DE&S. The team is lead by Jonathan Barratt and is part of the DE&S Combat Air business unit.

Desert Hawk III mini UAV delivers highly flexible and responsive, intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance to the war-fighter today. It is supporting front line troops on current operations and is small and portable. Herti is a high–endurance, rapid technology insertion unmanned air system. Hermes 450 is delivering intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance to the war-fighter today and informing tomorrow’s requirements. Watchkeeper the £899 million Unmanned Air System has completed its first system flight trials using autonomous software to manage the in-flight control from launch to recovery without a ground - based external pilot. Watchkeeper will provide enduring support to land commanders, providing real time intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance and is due to enter service next year. Reaper is an urgent operational requirement to provide all weather, intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance capability 24 hours a day. It is remotely flown by the RAFs 39 squadron and is disseminating imagery to front-line soldiers and operational commanders. Mantis is an advanced concept technology demonstrator programme, providing the foundation for a sovereign armed deep and persistant intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance Unmanned Air System capability. It is being developed in partnership with BAE Systems and other UK industries. Taranis is a joint funded technology demonstrator project which will show the integration of off-the-shelf technologies

Force Protection Integrated Project Team

Force Protection IPT provides a range of vehicle borne and man-pack Electronic Countermeasures capabilities to support current UK operations. This includes acquisition and support of the equipment and importantly management of the issues associated with vehicle integration and compatibility with other systems. In addition, FP also provides Ground Based Surveillance capability again to support UK ops. The IPT’s business is predominantly through Urgent Operational Requirements (UORs), although two Category ‘A’ core programmes are also managed within the team.

Tactical Data Links

Tactical Data Links (TDLs) are the means of providing real time encrypted communications to achieve total situational awareness (through judicious use of advanced information technology), the future for modern warfare. The IPT is the centre of excellence for the Acquisition of Tactical Data Link Systems, offering acquisition and cost-effective capability for UK forces. The TDL IPT provides a highly available, high tech information infrastructure for tri-service, NATO and coalition force operations. This is achieved through pragmatic integration of TDLs into platforms to achieve know levels of interoperability.

DG Ships’ Destroyers Directorate

DG Ships’ Destroyers Directorate is responsible for acquisition and support of the T45 Destroyer and all Combat Management Systems for Surface Ships. Captain Jim Palmer works as Assistant Director Delivery within Destroyers, responsible for Combat Management Systems, the computer systems at the heart of a platform’s Combat System. He is also leading a change programme to establish a Combat Systems Group for Surface Ships aimed at driving effectiveness and efficiency improvements by taking a programmatic approach to Combat Systems across platforms and through life.

Typhoon Integrated Project Team

Typhoon is an advanced, agile fighter aircraft which is progressively replacing the Tornado F3 and Jaguar in air defence and offensive air support roles. It is a collaborative programme involving the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain and is an aircraft optimised for air-to-air combat but with an air-to-surface capability.

Expeditionary Campaign Infrastructure (ECI) Integrated Project Team

ECI IPT is responsible for the provision of temporary deployable accommodation; tented camps; field hospitals; physical force protection. In addition, the IPT supplies construction resources and other commodities for both training and deployed operations.
